Will it play in Peoria?

I have yet to stop being amazed how blogging, or tweeting or just generally having some sense Social Media puts you ahead of so much of the US population. In the same way it took years before some people were not afraid of using email, every day there is a news story reminder covering such basics, in a major media outlet you shake your head.

Today the Washington Post chimes in with a puffy piece on former (and future?)  dotcom boy Eric Litman. Not a slam on Litman, he knows his stuff.

At least this piece doesn’t go into casual explanation of what a blog is, or whatever.

My favorite part, the usability part of me loves the investment and naming strategies Litman uses.

As one of his top investments, Litman touts DialAGeek, a remote technical support solution that he says can help consumers and small and medium size businesses get computer support at prices far below competitors, based in Rockville. Other examples of companies in WashingtonVC’s portfolio include a Utah company called Search Engine Optimization, for getting your company high on the list of Google results; BrowserMedia, a Web development and Web design agency in Bethesda; another Bethesda firm called HappyBirthday.com, a site for celebrating birthdays; and Phone.com, a Boston-based virtual phone service.

Well, not very clever, but how many times were you asked “what is a Google?” and “what does Skype mean?”

That said, I should look into some of these companies because if he has million dollarish investments for simple named concepts to make I am listening.
